Northern California. It's all about the water

Of all the wonders of nature, I love to paint water. Humans have always had a primal attraction to water, the essence of life.  Living near water has always been a priority, not only for drinking but as a source of food. The north coast of California is spectacular and provides an endless variety of design elements and moods. I think my most compelling reason to paint the coast and rivers is the movement and the moods. Water can one day be tranquil and soothing and the next day violent and threatening. The serpentine shape of rivers and creeks provides the artist with design elements that carry the eye through the painting. Reflections on the surface add color and interest and can be used to enhance the feeling of movement. There is a creek in our backyard and the Sacramento River is a mile away. The fabulous Trinity River is less than a hour drive and numerous waterfalls and trout streams are found a short distance to the East. I will be trying to balance my painting with trout fishing, kayaking, and berry picking.
